Lorraine Cannell – The Bead Queen

South Wootton (Kings Lynn)

I retired as an Operations Manager in 2002 without any idea what I would like to do with myself. Although Sewing was my forte, I was always passionate about fashion and jewellery. One day an 80-year-old lady taught me how to make jewellery using seed beads and a needle and thread, and the craft stuck with me. Later I even taught others to make seed beaded jewellery. But after being introduced to a fantastic Bead Merchant my attentions were directed to Organic Gemstones and Freshwater Pearls, and they are without a doubt the love of my life to work with now.

I design the semi-precious gemstone jewellery myself and can even knot pearls too. I still make the occasional seed beaded items like the poppy brooch and Leaf shaped earrings that have always been popular. I am also attempting some wire wrapping now too. Every day I challenge myself with another idea and design.

My most famous charm bracelet was “50 Shades of Grey” they were is great demand when E L James’s book was launched. I created a bracelet with all the items of relevance in the book.

I have also made hundreds of Guardian Angel charms for those that want to give them to relatives to keep them safe and show them love and affection. You will find these on my website under “Crystal and Glass Jewellery” Plus I have many bulk orders from Hospitals for memory bracelets for the parents of stillborn babies to keep in their memory boxes forever.
